When you hear stories reporting in excess of a thousand naked people in one place, you know the name Spencer Tunick almost has to show up later in the article. As reported by RTE:
The 'Dare to Bare' challenge took part earlier this morning [Tue 17 June] as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival and was photographed by the renowned US artist.
Images have made their way into the Sun, the London Paper and inPhotos.org. Doubtless more will creep into circulation as the days go by, especially since Tunick is scheduled to shoot another installation on Saturday.

[Consumerist] Reader Sam writes in to let us know that his apartment complex is being converted into a "clothing optional" paradise. Tenants of The Arbors at Branch Creek, you are now the hedonistic residents of Eden!According to Sam and an article in the Tampa Bay Times, current (clothed) residents of the apartment complex were unaware of the plans, and the apartment manager didn't know what was going on either. Sam says, "I don't mind nudist colonies, I just don't want to live in one!"
The site's wording implies that the "new dress code" applies to the whole complex, but when they tick off their amenities, only the pool and tanning deck are specifically described as "clothing optional".
UPDATE: I was right: It's just one pool and tanning deck. The Tampa Tribune has the story, and Tom Mulhall of the Terra Cotta Inn explains why "the worst thing for nudism is when you have non nudists try to operate nudist resorts."

Well, I'm all for sharing the road. If they will, I will. Bicycles are wheeled vehicles and, within reason, have to observe the same rules. Ride on the same side of the road that automobiles do. Stay in your lane: Signal when switching lanes or turning. Don't drive on the sidewalk. Stop when the light is red. You know, basic things like that.
Although the article doesn't actually say what those "unseasonably cool" temperatures were, I'm happy to provide that missing piece of information (gleaned from Weather Underground): The day averaged 50 °F / 10 °C.

Southwest Cove is one of the most famous nude beaches in the country, but there's a move under way to make people put their suits back on.I can't remember the last time I "pranced around like a puffed up chicken". Can you?
For decades, people have come to visit the beach, which is listed in nudist guides and on Web sites. All are welcome, naked or not, while cameras without permission and sexual behavior are forbidden.
The beach is on public land that isn't visible from the highway. The state -- which has no laws banning public nudity -- advises visitors with a sign at a trail head leading to the beach that warns ''be advised, you may encounter nude bathers.''
But some Westmore residents want to be able to use the beach without having to worry they or their kids will confront a naked person. They're pushing the town to pass an anti-nudity ordinance.
...Westmore, about 20 miles south of the U.S.-Canada border in northeastern Vermont, has a year-round population of 319, which jumps to about 1,000 in the summer. [Wonder why?]
..."All we're looking for, you know, is no nudity on the public beach," [said Tony Strange, who lives about a half-mile from Southwest Cove and helped circulate a petition asking the Select Board to enact the ordinance]. "You want to be naked in private, fine. ... I just don't want you to prance around like a puffed up chicken in front of my kids and think it's OK."

KMGH Denver: Naked Jogging Priest Found Guilty Of Indecent ExposureOkay, I'll grant that I've downplayed the fact that the man is a priest. The judge didn't think that was relevant: Neither do I. No one has suggested that he has violated anyone's trust or expectations in the performance of his duties.
Whipkey was arrested last June in Frederick, about 25 miles north of Denver, after an officer saw him walking naked on a street at 4:35 a.m. ...An officer going home from his shift saw Whipkey walking naked in the street. Whipkey told him he had been running naked at the track at Frederick High School and didn't think anyone would be around that time of day.
But the judge did allow previous allegations, including those that Whipkey has been seen walking nude around his home, swimming nude, and shaving nude during a boys' camp, to be admitted at the trial.
I've done all those things. Well, I shave nude, but not at boys' camp.
"This individual is being put on a daily basis in a position of trust with our children. Is that something that I would want my children involved with or to see or to witness? The direct answer is no," said Bob Branchato with Survivors Network of Those Abused By Priests. "Justice was done today. That is, we protected some children."

In most countries in the world outside of Europe, nudity is not just frowned upon but it can even be dangerous. In fact, almost anywhere, nakedness in a public place outside of a designated beach is illegal and it is likely to stay that way.
The human body seems to have become an embarrassment in all its forms.
...Triangle [the statue pictured] was placed on a roundabout in the town of Loveland in Colorado, a place well known for its sculpture. But it was not appreciated. The naked form was too naked and was described as being in bad taste by some residents, who said that there was nowhere in the US Bill of Rights that allows for public nudity.
Wow. That sounds like a rather sweeping condemnation.

A naturist church minister has called on like-minded Christians to join him in celebrating religion in the nude.
Pastor Robert Wright, 51, is to hold weekly fellowship meetings at a nudist resort near Brisbane, reports the Australian Daily Telegraph.
Mr Wright, who has been a naturist for more than 16 years, said: "I am not trying to get Christians to become nudists, I am catering for Christians who are nudists."

Tired of having to defend his penchant for nudity, Pastor Robert Wright decided to hold weekly Christian services for nudists.
Meanwhile, a Baptist minister at Tweed Heads in northern NSW declared nudists to be evil when objecting to a naked music festival at nearby Cabarita next month.
Raw Cabarita, which promises “an awesome three-day party where clothes aren’t necessary” raised eyebrows after organisers revealed even security guards would bare all for the festival, starting April 22.
Tweed Coast Community Baptist Church Pastor Graham Eggins said he was concerned the event would destroy the reputation of the area, which survives on family-friendly tourism.
“It just offends common decency,” Mr Eggins said.
Maybe there is hope after all.

Dear Abby: Nudity doesn't bother everyoneWhat a dreadfully polite way of saying "It's none of your business, sweetie."
My question: Is it normal for a 16-year-old boy to walk around the house naked, in plain view of family members? No one seems to notice or care.
I have never seen any of the other family members naked. This boy has no compunctions about being seen by his father, mother, sister or next-door neighbor. He's been nude in my presence dozens of times. I know it's common for little boys to run around without clothes on sometimes, but, Abby, he's not a little boy anymore. — Clothes-minded in Wisconsin
DEAR CLOTHES-MINDED: Standards regarding nudity vary from family to family, and obviously the Smiths are casual and open-minded on the subject.
Because he has matured sufficiently that his nudity now makes you uncomfortable, you should hang curtains on your windows that face the Smiths' kitchen — and before dropping over there, call to ask whether he's presentable. If he's not, then don't go over.
[This story is from last December, but (1) I really like "Abby's" attitude, and healthy attitudes never get dated; (2) It's my way of getting a running start.]
